04.06.2011– SALT LAKE CITY ––The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), the organization that establishes, builds, protects, and defends business value, today announced that its Consultants’ Training Institute (CTI) and the Middle Market Investment Banking Association (MMIBA) will jointly partner with the Exit Planning Institute to sponsor EPI’s Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) program to all CTI and MMIBA members. The five-day CEPA training program will be offered by the Exit Planning Institute on May 2–6 and November 7–11 in Chicago, at the University of Chicago Booth School of Management’s Gleacher Center.

“The Exit Planning Institute is the premier provider of learning, knowledge, and future-oriented research for exit planning professionals,” said Parnell Black, MBA, CVA, NACVA CEO and co-founder. “Already the Institute provides learning, knowledge, and future-oriented research for exit planning professionals in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, and China.”

The CEPA program is based on the general outline and content of the critically acclaimed book, The $10 Trillion Opportunity: Designing Successful Exit Strategies for Owners of Middle Market Businesses – A Guide for Business Advisors. This five-day, high energy executive MBA style program uses case studies, group exercises, and discussion groups to teach exit planning concepts and how to apply them.

Participants who successfully complete the CEPA program, and pass the 3.5 hour, closed-book proctored exam, receive the Certified Exit Planning Advisor or CEPA credential. The CEPA credential conveys an important professional statement to clients about a consultant’s commitment and qualifications and gives consultants added confidence to successfully pursue exit planning in a competitive marketplace. The CEPA program qualifies for 32.5 hours of CPE credit for CPAs, 17 hours of CE credit for CFP®s, 10 hours of CE credit for CBIs, and 24 hours of CPE credit for CM&AAs. After completing the CEPA program, participants will be able to:
• Identify the eight steps in the exit planning process
• Describe how the 54 Value Factors drive the maximization of the owner’s business value
• Explain the eight ways business owners can exit their business
• Define the components of Internal and External Sales
• Create action plans to address personal and business goals of the business owner
• Distinguish the five principal components of an exit plan
• Illustrate the five steps in consultative selling
• Develop a comprehensive exit strategy for the business owner
• Articulate the most appropriate exit strategy for a business owner
• Manage the exit planning team

“Over fifty percent of the owners of privately-held businesses say they expect to have a change in ownership within the next 15 years, but 43% of business owners have no formal financial plan,” said Richard Jackim, JD, MBA, CEPA, member of the Exit Planning Institute’s Board of Governors, and author of $10 Trillion Opportunity. “The value of exit planning is indisputable, and our message to business owners is critical right now. That’s why the Exit Planning Institute is thrilled to align itself with the Consultants’ Training Institute and the Middle Market Investment Banking Association.
The Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) accreditation should be of interest to valuation practitioners, CPAs, business advisors, controllers, CEOs, CFOs, financial advisors, attorneys, estate planners, wealth managers, business brokers, insurance professionals, M&A advisors, commercial lenders, and business owners.
